1. Different Taste – yes, you are bound have that difference, and the only solution is to stick to colors and designs that you both are likely to like and be comfortable with. And the best way to do that is by playing safe. Play safe by using neutral colors on the walls and floor and make it bold using bright colored cushion, paintings, sofa cover, and bed sheets.

2. Open Plan Apartment – this could be the most overwhelming part of your moving into a new space. Open plan apartment means having a lot of space to experiment and you can thus get to know your roommates likes and dislikes and plan setting which suits both. In open space apartment you have to make sections with the help of furniture. For example – an L safe sofa can be used to partition bedroom and living room.

3. Conceal Clutter – what if your roommate is really an outgoing person and likes to invite a lot of friends home. And you obviously have a lot things in open, be it your keys or mails or umbrella or even shoes. The best way to conceal them is by having a basket which can accommodate tiny things and a cabinet for foot wears.

4. Your Roommate Has a Bizarre Taste – your roommate wants to design the room her way and you seem to not like her choices infact find them quite bizarre. And you of course cannot be upfront about your views and intentions. There are two solutions to this dilemma. Firstly, you can agree to allow her to decorate the room, putting one condition – you are going to rotate smaller pieces every few months and these could be bed sheets or pillows or curtains or cushion covers. This will make it look more like you want to make the apartment look fresher. Secondly, discuss with your room mate that bedroom is a personal space and that it must reflect a part of persona of both the people sharing it. Make it sound more like fun by asking your roommate to engage in shopping together. You can buy accessories and other design elements together which definitely will also help you bond well and give an idea of each other’s likes and dislikes.
