Five Guest Bedroom Essentials to Make Your Guests Feel at Home

A clean and clutter-free space

A guest room should never be just a space to accommodate your guests after you call it a day. It should be a place where they would feel welcome and appreciated. It should provide the highest level of comfort whether it’s your relatives or friends who are coming over.

Besides, having a guest room also adds value to your property. A charming and cosy guest room will score you some points during a building survey if you plan to sell your house in the future. You can also consider renting the space out as an additional means of income. Alternatively, you can also convert the guest room later on as your family grows.

So how do you make sure that your guests feel at home?

The best way to go about this is by putting yourself in the shoes of your guests. Unless you know that your expected guests need something specific, what you would be looking for in a guest room should be the same for everyone else in general.

That said, here are five guest bedroom essentials that you need to have.

  • A clean and clutter-free space: This should be your first task if you want to make your guests feel at home. After all, a clutter-free room is a lot more inviting than one which is not. Ideally, you would want to do some intensive vacuuming and dusting before your guests arrive. At the same time, do not forget to have a trash can in the room for them to use during their stay.

Don’t forget to take all of your belongings out of the room especially if you’re using it as a storage area when you don’t have guests. Otherwise, you’d be bothering them if you have to come in when you need something. Emptying all the drawers out is also a good idea to make your guests feel like the room is theirs for the time being.

If you don’t have luggage racks in the room yet, now is the perfect time to get some. You don’t want your guests to be constantly crouching down to get things from their suitcases. Using the bed to put luggage pieces is not hygienic since these things have gone to airports and who knows where else — you don’t want them to be doing this.

  • Security: Home security is something that you should never take lightly. You spend money to make your home presentable and appealing — investing more to make it secure is a must. Besides, it’s always nice when you can sleep at night without having to worry about break-ins or what not.

If you feel that your home is safe and secure, so will your guests too. Having a dog, for instance, is one of the simplest yet effective ways of protecting your home from threats. It’s also worth checking if the window locks are working correctly to give your guests the peace of mind they deserve.

And don’t ever forget to always lock the front door no matter how safe your neighbourhood seems. It only takes a few seconds for thieves and other degenerates to get inside your home with the door unlocked. You should also consider installing a security system to keep intruders at bay.

  • Entertainment: Entertaining your guests doesn’t end when they go to bed. As such, it’s nice to provide them with some form of entertainment especially if they’re not a fan of sleeping early. One simple way to do this is by having books and magazines in the room. A television inside the guest room is also an excellent way to keep your precious guests entertained.

But perhaps, the most important thing that you can do for them is to give them the password to your WIFI. That way, they’ll be able to check their emails, social media, etc. whenever they need to. Be a little creative by printing the password and putting it on the nightstand which they’ll surely appreciate.

And while you’re at it, see to it that they also have easy access for when they need to charge their electronics. Almost everyone travels with their laptops, phones, and other gadgets. Ideally, you’d want to have the outlets installed near the bed or a cosy chair.

  • Pamper your guests: Up your game by pampering your guests even further. You can start by having a basket of toiletries somewhere in the guest room. You know how irritating it is when you forget to pack your own so don’t let your guests go through the same experience. Liquid soap, fresh bars of soap, towels, toothbrush, etc. — have all of these ready for them to use.

Make your guests feel even more special by having a cart of goodies in the room. The last thing you want is for them to get hungry in the middle of the night because they don’t want to wake you up. The same goes for early risers.

If your guests have kids with them, you’d want to include cookies, chocolates, and other snacks. Water bottles are also nice to include, so they don’t have to go to the kitchen if they get thirsty. Slippers too, are nice to have available in the room especially if your guests visit you in winter.

  • Comfy bed: Last but not the least, you want your guests to be sleeping in a very comfortable bed. It needs to be spacious but at the same time, just right for the size of the room. Keep in mind that the most basic requirement a guest room needs to have is a comfortable bed to help your guests get rested.

As such, invest in a high-quality mattress even if it means you have to spend more. Toss in some soft, medium, and firm pillows so your guests can choose what suit them best. It’s also a nice gesture to have a small basket by the bed with extra cushions and blanket in it should they get chilly.

As a final touch, add an extra boost of freshness to your guest bedroom with a naturally-scented linen spray.

Conclusion: The above are just the basics that need to be on your guest room checklist. If you want, you can try the room first to find out if there are things that still need to be added and go from there. And don’t forget to treat your guests with respect just as how you would want to be treated if you are one.
